Buckinhorse was a self-employed truck driver for over 40 years. He was also a local sprint car driver for 13 years, entertaining many of his fans with his spectacular driving. He loved to fish on the Missouri River.
He is survived by his two sons, Terry Olson of Rapid City and Kelly Olson of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, John Olson of Rapid City; his sister, Judy Olson of Laguna Hills, CA; his five grandchildren, Matthew, Chloe, Wade, Jordan and Hayden Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Gertrude Olson.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with services at 4 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Kirk Funeral Home, with Father Bill Zandri officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 21, at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville.
Friends may sign Buckinhorse’s online guestbook at Kirk Funeral Home’s website.
The Black Hills Speedway has been in operation for 67 years, and the legacy of the racing community in this area has been built on the pillars of some great, memorable drivers. This past week, we lost one of those greats….. and today, we laid to rest Jim “Bucking Horse Olson. I have put together a small collage of some of Jim’s friends, fans, and competitors and the impact that Jim had on them…….
